I have hit upon an awesome DIY hair oil conditioner that I think can benefit many types of hair based on my experiences giving my version to friends and family. For those with oily hair, it is best used as a hot-oil treatment to be washed out of the hair. For those with dry hair (like my daughter and I), it is great used as a daily hair conditioner and scalp nourisher.
This herbal hair oil is very easy to make with a little time and the right ingredients. For my recipe, I added a little coconut oil and oregano oil to augment the stimulating and cleansing action of the rosemary.
Here is my DIY Rosemary-Lavender Olive Oil Hair Treatment:
In a small pot, combine 1 cup of olive oil (I use Kirkland brand extra virgin organic olive oil from Costco), 2 tablespoons of organic, unrefined coconut oil (I use Carrington Farms brand organic, virgin, unrefined from Costco) and melt either over your burner's lowest heat setting (do not leave the area while heating) or in a double boiler. Once most of the coconut oil is melted, add several branches of fresh rosemary (I get mine from my friend Debi who grows hers indoors in grow boxes that she makes for wintertime growing of herbs).
Make sure the foliage is fully immersed in the oil. Allow to heat for about 10 minutes. If it starts heating too much, take it off the burner.
After 10 minutes, take the oil off the burner and allow to cool. Add one drop of concentrated oregano oil. Add approximately 20 drops of lavender essential oil (more or less depending how strong of a lavender scent you desire). If you think you may keep the oil for a long time, add some vitamin E (a few drops) to your oil.
Transfer your oil to individual containers. We like to use a spray bottle. Shake well before each use.
Do not forget to give some to your friends and family. They will really appreciate it.
